Quality Quarantine Products for Trichotillomania & Beauty
We’ve all been stuck at home for far too long. So what better thing to do than shop from the comforts of your pajamas —you know, the same ones you were wearing on your video call with your boss earlier. I’ve compiled a list of my favorite trichotillomania, beauty and wellness products and I hope to update this list monthly as I find new and innovative ways to stop trichotillomania.
Let’s get this going so you can get shopping!
1. Brow Flick and Boy Brow by Glossier
For a full tutorial of what I will call must have products for people who pull their eyebrows, go to the Tutorials highlight on my Instagram page. These products work to create natural hair like strokes, and in no time Cara Delevingne will have major brow envy of you. Buy both products here, you will not be dissapointed.
2. Tatcha Lip Mask For Lip Biting or Skin Picking (Dermatillomania)
If you have trichotillomania, you may have other compulsions like nail biting and skin picking. They often times go hand in hand. One of the best products I’ve found to keep my lips baby soft is this Tatcha Lip Mask. It’s a little pricey but— pinky promise— the quality is worth the price. It even comes with this amazing gold applicator, making me feel like a queen every time I apply it. Put it on your lips before bed and you won’t have cracked lips any longer! Use daily, and you may be able to kick your lip biting or skin picking habit for good!
3. CBD Hair Growth Serum by Vegamour
Not only are Vegamour’s hair growth serums all natural and vegan, but they also grow hair seriously faster than any of the growth products I’ve tried. After having trichotillomania for over 25 years, I understand the pain of seeing the damage and wondering, “How long will it take for my eyebrows or eyelashes to grow back after pulling them out?” There are huge variances in this answer, but this stuff is LEGIT. I hope you have the same results as me (below) and don’t forget to use discount code: trichtricks20 at checkout to receive 20% your order!
4. The Keen Bracelet by HabitAware
I wrote a blog post about this habit tracking bracelet, but the short version is this bracelet learns your behaviors and then alerts you when you’re doing it. I trained it to learn when i was pulling my eyelashes, and every time my hand went to my eye, it buzzed me out of my trance. There’s a nice breathe function and it gives your brain a chance to make another, healthier choice. This is especially beneficial if you are a unconscious hair puller.
Aneela, the founder of HabitAware, was a former hair puller but now is helping millions of others with body focused repetitive behaviors. Get your Keen Bracelet here.
5. Shower/Fidget Brush to Reduce Hair Pulling
This silicone shower brush is amazing, and much more sanitary than the loofah building mold and bacteria in your shower ;) (C’mon you know you’ve had that one for far too long). I didn’t think this shower brush replacement would lather soap that well, but boy does it! And silicone is so much more sanitary. The plus is that it doubles as a fidget tool. The super soft bristles on one side are perfect for keeping nearby while you type or watch TV. So much of trichotillomania is caused by sensory needs, so fill your touch need with this - and then use it for a super clean scrub down— a win win! Find this silicone brush in a multitude of colors here.
6. Sparkly Spinning Fidget Rings to Stop Hair Pulling
These are seriously the most beautiful fidget rings I’ve ever seen and just had to have them in my shop for you. They’re available in Rose Gold and Silver and they spin just like a fidget spinner. Perfect for class or in the office, they’ll keep your hands busy so you won’t pull your hair any more. Limited availability so be sure to Pre-order these beautiful CZ fidget rings. Adjustable for all sizes but come as is as a size 7.
7. Spiky Fidget Rings for Trichotillomania
Not into the bling? Here’s another tool to stop pulling your hair. I have these in all colors and use them when I’m writing or while watching TV. The spiky nature of the metal ring fills my sensory need for feeling and it reduces my urge to pull my hair when I can play with this instead. They’re super cheap on Amazon, and perfect to add to your trichotillomania toolkit.
8. EFT Tapping To Cure Trichotillomania
Okay, so this isn’t a product but it’s a service, and maybe you feel like you’ve tried every product on the market. Plus, this is perfect for trichotillomania during this stay at home order. Liz Fisher from Tap Into Health is offering my readers a “mini” half hour Zoom session for just $50 or you can buy three (3) one hour sessions for $300 and get the 4th free! I have worked with Liz multiple times and she is the most understanding and compassionate therapist. My full write up on how “tapping” for trichotillomania works, is here.
9. Facial Spray For Hair Pulling While Driving
I keep a can of beauty water spray in my car so when i feel the urge to pull my eyelashes or my eyebrows, I quickly mist my face and it re-sets the urge. Normally, it will stop me from pulling my hair completely. You can buy any brand or even get one with a lavender or green tea scent. They sell this Evian facial spray on Amazon here and I hope this technique helps you to stop pulling your hair while driving.
10. Pipe Cleaners If You Pull Your Hair While Driving
This was a brilliant Internet find, but tie a pipe cleaner or two around your steering wheel and while you drive, you can fiddle and run your hands across the smooth fabric. Again, why you pull your hair could be part of some sensory needs that aren’t being met. This helps me tremendously and it’s so cheap and easy. Plus, with your kids at home for approximately 300 more days (insert sigh and eye roll here), you may as well buy the whole craft kit.
I hope these products help to stop your hair pulling disorder, but above that, know that even by reading this and attempting to get information on stopping trichotillomania, you’re headed in the right direction.
