Probiotic Smoothie for Trichotillomania
Probiotics are helping me stop pulling my hair! Here’s my favorite smoothie recipe.
Peel and cut up bananas into pieces and freeze the bananas in separate snack size plastic bags. I do a whole bunch of bananas for the week so they’re ready when i need them. If you don’t peel before freezing, they will freeze to the peel (what a mess) and if you don’t cut them, they’ll take forever to blend like a big chunk of ice! This recipe doesn’t need ice since bananas are frozen so no more watered down smoothies! Score.
Banana Almond Greek Yogurt Smoothie:
One frozen cut up banana to blender
Pour almond milk (or milk of your choice) until bananas are covered ( about a 1/2 cup)
Add a heaping scoop of nonfat plain Greek yogurt (Chobani is my favorite)
1 probiotic (a refrigerated kind!) serving sprinkled in from the capsule
Two tablespoons of Almond Butter
1/4 cup of raw oats
1 scoop of collagen peptides (no flavor). This keeps skin and hair looking young, vibrant and healthy! We lose collagen as we age so it’s a good way to get it in daily. I use the brand Vital Proteins.
And blend this all together until smooth and creamy.
I use the Magic Bullet since it’s quick and the blender turns into a cup for on-the-go! It tastes like a banana peanut butter milkshake and fills me enough to substitute lunch.
There’s some interesting research in the gut-brain connection and how incorporating probiotics into your diet can help you stop pulling your hair. What’s there to lose? Not more hair!
